Paper Quilling Jewelry: Create Gorgeous Earrings and Pendants
This beautiful craft, called paper filigree, involves the use of thinner strips of paper twisted and looped into shapes to decorate items such as rings, necklaces, bracelets, and earrings. It’s an easy hobby to pick up, especially for beginners. You can make a pair of earrings for less than $3, including the cost of earring hooks and a couple of jump rings.
To create the earrings shown here, start by choosing a color for each earring. Then, cut a strip of the paper and roll it with your slotted paper quilling tool to make a coil. Repeat until you have six eye-shaped coils. To make the honeycomb pattern that makes up the interior of the earring, glue one of the coils to itself, then wrap the remaining two circles around the first one and glue them together. The result should resemble an open flower.
Add the final touch to your jewelry with a clear coating. Licia uses Krylon Low Odor Clear Finish spray, but you can also apply a light coat of any clear varnish that you have on hand.
