Energy Healing – A Complementary and Integrative Health Practice

Energy healing is one of the most popular forms of complementary and integrative health (CAM) practice. According to most CAM philosophies, physical and mental health conditions come about when the body’s energy becomes blocked, unbalanced or stagnant. Energy healing practitioners work with the body’s energy to restore the balance and support the client’s overall health and well-being. The type of energy healing used varies and some practitioners may use their hands on the client’s body, while others work non-physically with the body’s energy field. The latter types of energy healing are called energy therapy and they often can be done remotely.

There are dozens of energy healing practices and they vary in philosophy, technique and method. Some practitioners are attuned or initiated into a specific healing modality like reiki, but others simply work with an intention to heal. The NICCIH’s website has an extensive list of all the different energy healing modalities and you can also get in touch with a practitioner at an integrative medicine center to find a qualified energy healer near you.

Even when we aren’t consciously engaging in a healing intention, we are constantly sending and receiving healing energy to and from each other. We all have our own unique vibration and we can support each other by connecting with them at a deeper level. A few simple steps can help us keep our own energy clean and clear. For example, soaking in Epsom or pink Himalayan salts for 20 minutes or burning sage to cleanse your aura are easy and effective ways of keeping your energy healthy.
